What are the best roof shingles for Florida?

If you are getting roof work done in the state of Florida with asphalt shingles, it’s likely that you are facing a choice between two types of shingles for your roof. Three Shingles or architectural shingles are often some of the best choices for asphalt shingle installation today. The price difference between these two is fairly negligible but they have a number of differences in their construction. Here are some of the top considerations about each type of shingles:

Architectural Shingles

The shingles are some of the best for withstanding harsh weather as well as intense humidity. They’ve become a favoured choice in the state of Florida because of their ability to withstand storms and for their algae resistance. Because of Florida’s consistent rainfall it is important to have a highly durable shingle and architectural shingles can be some of the best for the wet conditions here.

An architectural shingle comes with an added benefit of being able to withstand up to 130 mile-per-hour winds. Most shingle manufacturers recommend securing each with six nails which can make sure the average shingle could withstand up to a category five hurricane.

Three Tab Shingles

A three tab shingle does come with an increased lifespan over shingles that were being produced several years ago. The only downside to a three tab system is that it has a tendency to flop around in heavy winds which increases the likelihood of damage especially throughout a hurricane or tropical storm.

Both Shingles

Both shingles have an average lifespan of between 10 to 15 years but architectural shingles can often last 20 years or longer. The cost on average is fairly similar and the cost for maintenance often remains the same between the two options as well.
